Outreach News

The Day of Quilting on April 10 was a success, thanks to an exceptional coaching team (Marsha Loewenberg, Linda Mezger and Mary Marchand) and enthusiastic participants.

Who knew there are so many ways to easily sandwich and baste a quilt!?  How liberating to free motion quilt!  Stay tuned for information about a repeat performance later this year.

Making charity quilts has been a large part of the mission of the Quaking Aspen Quilt Guild.  At each guild meeting this year, we have displayed charity quilts. A heartfelt thank youto all who have generously donated time, talent and materials to create our charity quilts!   Our 2016-2017 year of giving will culminate with our Camp Quilt reveal at the June guild meeting.

To prepare for the grand showing, please bring camp quilts to the May guild meeting.

Current recipients of our charity quilts include foster children (camp quilts), Neonatal Intensive Care infants (NICU quilts), child victims of physical or sexual abuse (Blue Sky Bridge),survivors of domestic violence (Safehouse Progressive Alliance for Nonviolence) and service members and veterans touched by war (Quilts of Valor).

At our June meeting, guild members will select and affirm our charity projects for 2017-2018.  If you would like to nominate a new group to receive charity quilts, please contact Susan Brown (susanzvi@gmail.com) for a nomination form.   Please return the nomination form by June 1.

Community Outreach often features Sew Days on the 5th Monday of the month. Since May 29 is Memorial Day, we will not be sewing together that day!  Instead, mark your calendar for a half-day sew day on Monday, May 15 from 12:30 until 4 (following the Board meeting).
